Itinerary 6: Paineiras and Santa Teresa

The Paineiras Road is located in the Tijuca National Forest near the Christ the Redeemer statue at Corcovado Mountain, and is closed to vehicle traffic on weekends to allow residents a safe and quiet place for walking and jogging. It offers astonishingly beautiful panoramic views of the city as well as direct contact with the natural wonders of the forested Rio hills. We can see that many Cariocas don't spend all of their leisure hours at the beach, as we join them in this enchanting pedestrian-only outing. We'll return through the charming Santa Teresa neighborhood, where in the last century the city's elite built grand residences to escape the sea-level heat. Santa Teresa is a delight, with its picturesque streetcars, cobblestone streets, art deco houses and "castles".
